Biography
Steven R. Kotarba is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Chicago. He specializes in all aspects of bankruptcy case administration, including claims review and reconciliation, preparation of statements and schedules, legal noticing, and the development of custom solutions to complex case administration and claim reconciliation issues. Mr. Kotarba has advised debtors, individual creditors and official committees both in and out of bankruptcy, and has deep experience regarding bankruptcy litigation and appeals. Mr. Kotarba has worked with clients across various industries, including financial services, media, airline, manufacturing, medical, food service, retail, high tech and home building. Notable clients include Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., Tribune Company, United Airlines, W.R. Grace, Pierre Foods and Kimball Homes. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Kotarba spent five years as an attorney in the Corporate Restructuring Group of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP, and served as Director and Head of Chicago operations for the BMC Group, Inc., an international information management company. Mr. Kotarba earned his bachelor's degree in finance and economics from Indiana University,and a juris doctorate, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law. Mr. Kotarba has served as Associate Editor of the Iowa Law Review and Assistant Editor for Norton Law and Practice, and has been published in Bankruptcy Court Decisions ("3rd Circuit ruling May (Further) Influence Venue Selection"), and The Bankruptcy Strategist ("Use of Legal Auditing Firms in Bankruptcy"). He presented on the panel at the American Bankruptcy Institute's Nuts & Bolts seminar, and was the guest speaker at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, where he spoke about Chapter 11 Reorganizations and the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. Most recently, Mr. Kotarba was a panel speaker on the topic of "Current and Future Issues in Chapter 11 Cases" at the ABI's 17th Annual Central States Bankruptcy Workshop.
