Biography

Sudeep Kanjilal is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Corporate Performance Improvement practice in New York. Mr. Kanjilal built, launched and scaled global digital payments, commerce, banking and retail for 10 of the world’s top 20 global banks, and Fortune 500 retailers. His leadership experience includes implementing digital, mobile and emerging payment solutions. Mr. Kanjilal helps organizations envision a future-state technology infrastructure that is robust, secure and highly aligned to digital consumer needs, leveraging unstructured data and deploying mobile and digital services. He guides firms in transforming their product design, development, and deployment / commercialization, and aligning execution capabilities with strategic plans. He is an expert on digital disruption and assists clients in building new business models. His program delivery drives industry-wide technology platform transformation impacting the payment experience of hundreds of millions of consumers globally. He specializes in open platforms, API management and strategy, new product development, innovation design, digital wallets / payments, social payments, credit card processing and people leadership / development. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Kanjilal led Emerging Payments for North America with MasterCard. He managed a banking industry ecosystem on MasterCard Open Digital Platform, evangelizing digital banking strategies. It was the world’s first and also the largest such open digital platform by a global financial institution in a heavily regulated industry. He also deployed a digital security model that enabled millions of developers to access regulated data and services from multiple competing banks. He also worked closely with the new ecosystem players in digital commerce, wrote and rolled out several network mandates, co-authored industry standards relating to tokenization and led the development and rollout of MasterCard Digital Enablement Platform (MDES) with ApplePay as the first client. Working with all top U.S. banks, Mr. Kanjilal enabled the digitization of more than 100 million consumer payment cards. Previously, Mr. Kanjilal led the global banking and payments vertical at Mahindra Technologies, a $5 billion global systems integrator, where he managed the acquisition of a text-based payments startup, and then expanded the product into a mobile recommendation discovery and offer platform, which was deployed in seven countries. He built and ran a business of $115 million P&L (profit and loss). Mr. Kanjilal earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication engineering, as well as an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management.
