Tariq Hameed

Biography

Tariq Hameed is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Financial Institutions Advisory Services practice in Dubai. He has more than two decades of experience in the financial industry sector, spanning Asia, the U.K. and the Middle East, at global financial institutions including Standard Chartered, Citibank and the Islamic Development Bank Group. He has held leadership positions across various functions including transaction banking, wholesale banking, consumer banking and private banking, with specialist experience related to the SME and real estate sectors in both conventional as well as Sharia-compliant finance. Mr. Hameed has helped to develop, structure, launch and manage Sharia-compliant equity and debt funds, including SME-specific funds, at leading financial institutions, multilateral development financial institutions and government agencies. He has led business development and strategy functions in the fields of Shari’ah-compliant real estate (mortgage and project finance) and SME financing platforms, including the development, structuring, launch and post-launch management of such platforms. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Hameed was part of the senior management of a large, multilateral development financial institution group in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At that organization, he spearheaded the development and launch of a USD 350 million SME fund, a USD 350 million mortgage finance company and a USD 100 million construction finance company. He also advised GCC governments on their SME and housing strategies and finance programs as a specialist in developing strategies and transaction structuring. Previously, as a member of the core Management Committee of Tamweel, the leading property finance institution in the UAE, he played a key role in the establishment and development of its business plan and portfolio and spearheaded the origination team. Prior to that, he headed Standard Chartered Bank’s World Corporate Group in Pakistan, responsible for the Corporate Bank’s multinational lending portfolio. He was responsible for developing, managing and implementing transaction banking and trade finance products for corporate customers, including a vendor finance product for SMEs with the participation of the Asian Development Bank. He was also involved in business development activities that included creating products for and marketing to the SME segment. Mr. Hameed received his MBA in marketing and finance from the Institute of Business Administration in Pakistan. He is a U.K. national.
