Biography
Todd Martin is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Canada in British Columbia. He was formerly a partner with KPMG LLP in Canada, serving as Partner-in-Charge of Transaction Advisory in Western Canada, as well as Chairman and a Director of KPMG Inc., their restructuring practice. Mr. Martin brings more than 20 years of experience acting in statutory restructuring appointments and court-sanctioned mandates in Canada, including engagements as a Monitor under the Companies Creditors' Arrangement Act (CCAA) and all formal insolvency appointments under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Canada). He also has extensive experience serving as a financial adviser to corporate debtors and boards, senior secured lenders and syndicates, bondholders, trading houses, regulators, governments and sovereign credit insurers. Notable engagements include acting as court-appointed Monitor under the CCAA and Foreign Representative under Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code of Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, Monitor under the CCAA of Sterling Shoes Inc. and financial advisor to the DIP lenders in the CCAA restructuring of Catalyst Paper. Mr. Martin has significant international restructuring experience, having acted as financial adviser to the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency, and as financial adviser to the Creditors' Steering Committee in the consensual debt restructuring of Asia Pulp & Paper Co. (Indonesia and China). Additional experience includes assisting with the development and implementation of a Scheme of Arrangement in the liquidation of Bank of Credit and Commerce International (Hong Kong). Besides Southeast Asia, he has restructuring-related experience in the Caribbean, U.S. and Europe. He has also worked within the forestry, pulp and paper and other natural resource and energy sectors, acting in numerous operating receiverships and turnarounds involving going-concern divestitures. Mr. Martin was lead partner responsible for the receivership and day-to-day management of one of Canada's largest market pulp producers, and also led the divestiture of the pulp facility and operations to an international strategic buyer. His experience also includes financial institutions, insurance and securities firms, as well as real estate development and construction companies. Mr. Martin earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Simon Fraser University and holds professional designations as a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a Canadian Licensed Insolvency Trustee. He is a past director of the Canadian Insolvency Foundation, served on the Commercial Insolvency Committee of CIRP and is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada and INSOL.
