Tom Mcfarlane

Biography

Tom McFarlane is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Taxand UK, LLP and leads the Transfer Pricing and Tax Efficient Supply Chain Management (TESCM) practice in London. He brings 16 years of experience in implementing principal structures for multinationals around the globe. He has worked with clients across a range of industries, including consumer products, industrial products, retail, mining, pharmaceuticals, automotive and oil and gas. Mr. McFarlane supports clients that are expanding and adapting their current supply chain models to meet the demands of the new economy. This includes support with respect to expansion into new geographical markets, and new channels to market (such as online business). Mr. McFarlane has successfully advised on, implemented and project-managed some of the largest business reorganizations in Europe (principal structures, toll manufacturing, commissionaires, limited risk distributors, centralised procurement). His role focuses on ensuring business reorganisations are implemented in a tax–efficient manner. This involves assessing the corporate and international tax aspects associated with supply chain reorganisations (exit charges, transfer of IP, transfer pricing, permanent establishments, revenue authority rulings and negotiations) Currently, Mr. McFarlane is working closely with his clients to ensure BEPS compliance – with a focus on Permanent Establishments, Profit Splits and Country By Country Reporting.  He is also assisting clients with numerous APAs and MAP claims.  Prior to joining A&M, Mr. McFarlane spent six years with KPMG and was a founder of its TESCM practice. As an associate partner in the TESCM team, he led numerous high-profile tax efficient supply chain restructuring projects for multinationals. Mr. McFarlane earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, majoring in accounting from University in Melbourne, Australia, and qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
