Biography
Umberto Paolo Moretti is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) and the Head of Financial Advisory in Milan. He brings over 14 years of investment banking experience within financial restructuring, debt and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory. Mr. Moretti currently serves as a non-executive board member of Microgame, an Italy-based business-to-business provider of gaming solutions. Previously, Mr. Moretti led A&M’s financial restructuring team involved in the restructuring of debt exposure of a private equity portfolio company. He also advised the Board of Directors of a listed Italian high tech company in the review of its financing strategy. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Moretti served as Senior Director for Mediobanca’s Special Situations practice. During his tenure with Mediobanca, Mr. Moretti was involved in several restructuring transactions, including Fondazione Monte dei Paschi, the controlling shareholder of Banca Monte dei Paschi, in which he served as advisor to the Deputazione Amministratrice on the €1 billion debt rebalancing plan. He also served as advisor to the senior secured bondholders of SEAT Pagine Gialle, a leading player in the Italian directory business with revenues in excess of €800 million, on its €2.7 debt restructuring. Mr. Moretti also advised on the €200 million debt restructuring of an Italian building materials company, the capital structure optimization of an Italian real estate holding company with €470 million in financial debt, and the covenant reset of an Italian boiler manufacturer with revenues in excess of €600 million and €430 million in financial debt. Additionally, Mr. Moretti was involved in several restructuring, debt advisory and M&A transactions with Rothschild, including Wind Telecomunicazioni’s $12.8 billion buyout. Mr. Moretti earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Università Commerciale L. Bocconi in Italy. An Italian national, Mr. Moretti is fluent in Italian and English.
