Biography
Thomas Appelquist’s research has dealt with various aspects of theoretical high energy physics. Among his contributions are his work predicting the existence of the J/Psi particle, the formulation of the decoupling theorem in quantum field theory, the study of quantum effects in Kaluza-Klein theories, the development of the electroweak chiral lagrangian, the proposal of walking technicolor theories, the idea of universal extra dimensions, and the study of conformal symmetry in gauge field theories using lattice simulations.
Research Interest
"He is currently conducting research on two fronts. He is continuing with the program he helped to initiate in 2008, using lattice-based numerical simulations to study strongly coupled gauge field theories that could describe new physics beyond the standard model (SM) of particle physics. The Lattice Strong Dynamics (LSD) collaboration, which he helped to form, is focusing much of its effort on dark matter candidates and new physics accessible at the LHC. He is also working with colleagues elsewhere and with Yale graduate students to develop new effective field theories inspired by the lattice simulations. "
