Biography
Cassidy Bommer joined Braverman IVF & Reproductive Immunology as a Clinical Research Assistant in the fall of 2013. Cassidy graduated cum laude with Honors from Mount Holyoke College with a B.A. in Biological Sciences and a certificate in Culture, Health, and Science. Cassidy Bommer Cassidy's interest in reproductive health and pregnancy was sparked by a high school internship with Lifebank USA, the only company to offer both cord and placenta blood banking for newborns. She went on to work as a research assistant in the Reproductive Immunology lab of Dr. Sarah J. Bacon at Mount Holyoke College, studying the post-mating inflammatory response during pregnancy in mammals. During her time as an undergraduate, Cassidy served as a research intern at University Hospital in Newark, NJ in the Obstetrics & Gynecology department, assisting in the development of a series of case reports on the treatment of uterine fibroids during pregnancy. She was also lucky enough to travel to El Salvador with Basic Health International where she participated in cervical cancer screenings for women in various low resource regions of the country. While studying at Harvard University during her junior year, Cassidy's essay, "The value of the Darwin & Gender project, addressed to the National Science Foundation," was selected for publication on the Darwin Correspondence Project (University of Cambridge) website. Her senior honors thesis, advised by Mount Holyoke College President Lynn Pasquerella, addressed models of perinatal support for women in the Massachusetts criminal justice system. While this work deviated from Cassidy's background in basic and clinical research, it provided her with a launching point for her interest in a woman's "right to pregnancy." Cassidy is excited to be working with Dr. Braverman, Dr. Ritsick, and the entire team at BRI.
