Biography
"Our research has mostly been focussing on juvenile pelagic loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) at Madeira Island. We are interested on how turtles survive in an open ocean environment. Topics span from: (1) basic population description and dynamics (using biometry, marking, laparoscopy for sex ratios, and long term in water monitoring, genetic characterization); (2) large scale movements and behaviour (using satellite telemetry and datalogging); (3) fisheries interaction and conservation (monitoring fishing activities and persistent debris); to (4) taphonomy and historic data interpretation."
