Biography

"I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at CIBIO/InBIO, University of Évora and REN Biodiversity Chair, coordinated by Dr. João Paulo Silva and Prof. Francisco Moreira. Most of my research work has been focused on seabird ecology and behaviour, investigating diverse topics such as their feeding ecology, colony attendance, moult strategies or spatial ecology. I am also interested in the foraging behaviour of opportunistic species and on their interactions with human activities (e.g., use of fishery discards and landfills). Currently, my scientific work is focused on the movement ecology of an endangered steppe bird, the little bustard Tetrax tetrax. Using a large spatial dataset, derived from GPS/GSM tracking data of little bustards, I am especially interested in the stopover ecology of little bustards during their post-breeding movements. To understand how the choice of stopover areas relates with habitat and linear infra-structures (such as power lines, roads or railways) may be an important step to recognize the risks of migratory choices in a bird mainly threatened by collision with power lines and illegal hunting."
