Biography
Mr. Laskawy has been a director of Henry Schein, Inc. since 2002, and has served as Lead Director since 2012. Mr. Laskawy spent 40 years at Ernst & Young (now known as EY LLP), retiring as Chairman and CEO of the Company in 2001. Under his leadership, the firm expanded into a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction, and advisory services. Mr. Laskawy joined Ernst & Young in 1961 after graduating from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Progressing through the ranks of the audit services practice, he was admitted to the firm's partnership in 1971. He became Managing Partner of the New York Office in 1981, and in 1985 was named Vice Chairman and Managing Partner of the New York Region and a member of the firm's Management Committee. Mr. Laskawy became Chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young in 1994 and held that position until his retirement. Mr. Laskawy currently serves on the Board of Directors of Lazard Ltd. and is Chairman of its audit committee and is a member of its compensation committee. He is also a director at Loews Corporation and is a member of its audit committee. Mr. Laskawy served on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to review and update rules regarding auditor independence. In 2006 and 2007, he served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation, which was created by the Securities and Exchange Commission and sets accounting standards in more than 100 countries, and he served as a member of the 1999 Blue Ribbon Committee on Improving the Effectiveness of Corporate Audit Committees. Mr. Laskawy has also served on the Board of Directors of General Motors Corporation and was the Non-Executive Chairman of Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae).
