Biography
Ambassador Francisco Seixas da Costa is a Portuguese national, born in 1948. Has a degree in Political and Social Sciences from Technical University of Lisbon. Career diplomat since 1975, he served in the Portuguese embassies in Norway, Angola and the United Kingdom. Between 1995 and 2001 he was Secretary of State for European Affairs. After 2001, he was successively ambassador to the United Nations, in New York, to the Organization for Security and Co-operation, in Vienna, to Brazil, to France and cumulatively to UNESCO. He was Chairman of the General Council of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro University. He is consultant of the Faculty of Economy, at Coimbra University, and of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, at Nova University in Lisbon. He was Executive Director of the North-South Center of the Council of Europe. Since 2013 he has been Chairman of the Consultative Council of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and member of the Strategic Consultative Council of Mota-Engil SGPS SA. He has been a lecturer at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa since 2014. In April 2016 he was elected Director and member of the Nominations and Remunerations Committee of EDP Renováveis. He writes regularly in the press and is author of several books on international relations and security issues. He has been a Non-Executive Director of the Company since 10 April 2013
