Biography
Cristina L.M. Silva is Associate Professor at Faculty of Biotechnology since 2007. She is Chemical Engineer and PhD in Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and is involved in research on quality and safety of foods, with special emphasis on mathematical modelling and optimisation of the processes. More specific research interests can be described by the following keywords: fruits and vegetables, fruit juices, sensory analysis, thermal processes, non-thermal innovative processes (such as ozonation, ultrasonic and UV radiation), drying and freezing. She is also working in predictive microbiology and sterilization of medical devices. She lectures transport phenomena and food technology courses. Cristina Silva coordinated or coordinates several international projects and is past-president of ISEKI_ Food Association, member of the executive committees of EFFoST – European Federation of Food Science and Technology and IFA, and member of the IUFoST Education Committee. She is currently responsible for the International Relations, coordinator of the 3rd cycle degrees, and president of the pedagogic committee at ESB.
