He went to Lisbon in 1981 to study biology at the Faculty of Sciences (1986, with 16 val). For 10 years, between the ages of 13 and 23, he worked in the summer holidays and, in some years, also in the Christmas and Easter holidays, in old fashioned civil construction, helping his father. He taught for 7 years in Ens. Basic and Secondary. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology at IST in 1995 with Very Good and in 2002 he completed his PhD at the same school with the thesis "Burkholderia cepacia in respiratory infections of Portuguese patients with cystic fibrosis: molecular epidemiology and exopolysaccharide biosynthesis". He has been a lecturer at the Universidade Lusófona since April 1991 and has been an Associate Professor since 2002. More recently, his first novel - Chiado Ed., Entitled "The Foundation", was published.
