Biography
Pedro M. Gonçalves Pereira was born in Lisbon on February 10, 1968.He attended the Lycée Français Charles Lapierre, in Lisbon, and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences "Abel Salazar" University of Porto where he graduated in Medicine in 1995. Between 1995/1999 was Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics (ed. Prof. Abel Gomes). He also held research internships in Medical Genetics (dir. Prof. J. Sequeiros) and Anatomy (dir. Prof. N. Grande) Laboratories. He completed his General Internship at the Hospital Gerald de Santo António in 1997, and the Internship of Neuroradiology at the Hospital PedroHispano. Attended the Gulbenkian PhD Programme in Biology and Medicine and obtained his doctorate in 2007 at the University of Porto with the Thesis "Extent and Severity of Tissue Damage in Human and Experimental Temporal Lobe Epilepsy" directed by Prof. F. H. Lopes da Silva and A. Martins da Silva, with unanimity. Is Author of 8 scientific articles in international publications and about 50 international communications. Since 2008, is Neuroradiologist at the Hospital dos Lusiadas, Lisbon. Since 2012, is Full Professor at the Instituto Politécnico de Lisbon. Since 2015, is Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Algarve. In 2014, he had two scientific articles selected to the TOP 100 of the American Journal of Neuroradiology. In 2016, was awarded the European Skull Base Society Grant for the Outstanding Basic Research Paper "Advantages of Diffusion Tensor Tractography of Facial Nerve in Vestibular Schwannomas Surgeries: A Multicentre Study" (12th Congress of the European Skull Base Society)
