Biography

Maria Eduarda Machado de Araújo - Born in Lisbon in 1956. Graduated in Chemistry in 1979 at the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon, MSc in Organic Chemistry in 1987 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and PhD in Organic Chemistry in 1991 at the University of Lisbon , Faculty of Sciences, having presented the thesis with the following title: "Phytochemical Study of Macroalgas of the Portuguese Coast - Cystoseira Gender". She is Assistant Professor with permanent appointment since 1996. She is the director of the curricular units of Chemistry of Natural and Nutraceutical Products of the Degree in Chemistry, of Natural Medicinal Products of the Master in Chemistry and of Advanced Laboratories of Chemistry for Conservation and Restoration of the Master in Conservation Sciences , Restoration and Production of Contemporary Art. He was a Fellow in the Physiopharmacology Group of the Gulbenkian Institute of Science from 1978 to 1980. From 1982 to 2000 he was a member of the Center of Electrochemistry and Kinetics of the University of Lisbon. From 2000 to the present she is a researcher at the Center for Chemistry and Biochemistry (CQB). Integrating the Group of Chemistry of Glucos. He participated in the projects: "Natural Products of Medicinal Plants of Guinea- Bissau", Project JOOIC / C / CEN / 1023/92, "Carbafung - Synthesis and antimycotic activity of carbamates and carbonates", Project LOO28 / IC PME II / "Preparation of N-nitrosocompounds and evaluation of these as potential alkylating agents and / or nitric oxide donors", Project PRAXIS / POCTI / QUI / 38847/2001, "Application of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) to tuberculostatic modeling: synthesis of new bioactive compounds ", Project PRAXIS / FCT / SAPIENSPOCTI / FCB / 39709/2001, "Sulfenylcarbamates as inhibitors of cysteine ​​proteases: chemical and biochemical reactivity", POCI / QUI / 59328/2004, "New Drugs from Sugars to Fight Bacillus Infections (FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IAPP), the project "QREN-SI I & DT Co-Promotion" (Project No. 21547) and the European project Diagnostic and Drug Discovery Initiative for Alzheimer Disease. She is the co-author of 105 papers in national and international congresses, 44 articles in international journals with scientific arbitration, 2 book chapters and 10 scientific articles. She was the supervisor of: 2 doctoral theses, 9 Master's degree, 39 graduate courses of Lic. Chemistry and Technological Chemistry and 7 internships carried out by foreign PhD students.  

Research Interest

His scientific interests are currently in the area of ​​Natural Products Chemistry, developing in three areas: - Assessment of bioactivities - antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of medicinal plants and plants used in food; - Cultural heritage - identification of the tannins used in the tanning of historic leather and evaluation of the respective antioxidant activity as a determining factor in the high durability of these materials; -Preparation of ionic liquids from biomolecules
