Biography

Rodrigo FM de Almeida, Principal Investigator of the Center for Chemistry and Biochemistry (CQB), graduated in Biochemistry from FCUL in 1999 and obtained a PhD in Chemistry in 2004 from the Technical University of Lisbon, with works done at the Molecular Chemistry-Physics Center (CQFM). Between 2001 and 2003 he was also assistant of Chemistry-Physics at the University of Évora. He was a postdoc at CQFM, at the Microspectroscopy Center at the University of Wageningen (Netherlands), and at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Miguel Hernández University (Spain). In 2008, he returned to FCUL as a researcher at the Center for Chemistry and Biochemistry (CQB) and created a group of Molecular Biophysics that still leads today. R. Almeida is a co-author of 50 scientific articles and chapters of international books in indexed journals, ca. of 1800 citations in the Web of Science, a textbook and a national patent. Several of his articles deserved national and international distinctions, highlighting the fact that 3 of his works were considered belonging to the best 2% in Biology and Medicine by Faculty of 1000. In 2012 he was recognized as the top 1% of young scientists in universities by the European Commission's Platform for Science.
