Biography
Dr. Wimmer earned his BS in Chemistry from the University of Rostock, Germany, a MS in Chemistry from the University of Goettingen, Germany and his Dr. rer. nat. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Goettingen, Germany.ct few to be designated Highly Cited Researcher by the Institute of Scientific Information. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), of the American Academy of Microbiology, and of the German Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina). Among his numerous honors, Dr. Wimmer is the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Forschungspreis, two NIH Merit Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Research Foundation of the State of New York, the Beijerinck Virology Price, and the 2012 Robert Koch Medal.
