Biography
Alan Sherry became Principal of Glasgow Kelvin College on Vesting Day 1 November 2013, having previously held the post of Principal at John Wheatley College in East Glasgow for almost three years. Alan was an original member of staff when that College was established in 1989, the only new FE college opened by the former Strathclyde Regional Council. He first became an Assistant Principal in 1991 and was involved in the development of the Curriculum, the Estate and services to support the learner. Prior to taking up post as Principal, Alan was an Education Scotland Associate Assessor for a number of years. He has been involved actively in a range of national widening participation initiatives over the years and is one of the College Principals’ Group representatives on the Scottish Funding Council Access and Inclusion Committee. In addition, he is a member of the SQA Inclusion Committee.
Research Interest
His research interest includes the the boards of a number of community based organisations in North East Glasgow including the Glasgow East Arts Company and Bridgeton Community Learning Campus.
