Biography
Joseph Murphy, PhD, is Director of Science, R&D, for Charles River's Discovery Research Services site in Morrisville, NC, which specializes in oncology. Joe has more than 20 years of experience in biological research in both academia and the biotechnology industry. His research focus has been cancer angiogenesis and immunotherapy. His previous roles include Director of Cancer Therapeutics and Immunology, Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, Alabama and Senior Research Scientist/Lecturer at Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland. He also served as Founder/Managing Director of a company focused on developing an immune-based anti-cancer therapy. He holds a BSc degree in Mathematics, Physics and Biology, and a PhD in Immunology. Joe conducted post-doctoral work at INSERM/Institute Pasteur, Lyon, and Stanford University, CA. He has written and/or contributed to more than 100 scientific articles and conference papers, including Cancer Immunology: Bench to Bedside Immunotherapy of Cancers and MedCrave Online Journal of Immunology. In his free time, Joe enjoys rugby, travelling and fly-fishing.
