Biography
Alexey Borisovich Miller born 31 January 1962 is a Russian business administrator. Miller is the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Management Committee (CEO) of Russian energy company Gazprom, Russia's largest company and the world's biggest public energy supplier. Miller was born in Leningrad to a Russo-German family. He went on to study at and graduate from the Leningrad Institute of Finance and Economics from where he graduated with a PhD in economics. Miller’s first role was as an engineer-economist in the general planning division of the Leningrad research institute of civil construction ‘LenNIIProekt. In 2000 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and since 2001 he has served as Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom. Since 2002, he has also been deputy chairman of Gazprom’s board of directors. Putin secured Miller’s appointment as CEO so that his former colleague could put an end to fears that some of Gazprom’s executives had harmful third-party relationships
