Biography
Born Essex England 1971. Moved to Pennsylvania 1986. Childhood interest in natural history: insects, reptiles, birds. 1989-1994 Penn State undergraduate in biology and math; became interested in population genetics. Penn State track and cross country teams; 5000m best 14:17. 1994-1998 Stanford PhD in biology with Marc Feldman: theoretical popgen, microsats, population structure. 1998-2001 Oxford Stats postdoc with Peter Donnelly, more on structure, also rare variants, LD. 2001-2013 faculty job University of Chicago; popgen, statgen, genomics. 2013 moved to Stanford. Personal: married Lianne Kurina, kids Simon, Lucy; enjoy running, biking, birding, backpacking.
