Biography
From 1989 until retiring in 1997, Joseph E. Smith served in various positions with the Warner-Lambert Company which has since been merged into Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE). In addition to serving Warner-Lambert as President of its Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals Division, he also held the position as President of the Shaving Products Division and was a Member of the Office of the Chairman. Prior to Warner-Lambert , Mr. Smith was President of Rorer Pharmaceutical Corporation, a predecessor company of Aventis SA (NYSE:AVE), and he held various marketing and management positions with Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ ). Mr. Smith is also a director of WebMD Corporation (NASDAQ:HLTH) and has served on the Boards of Roberts Pharmaceutical Corporation, Shire Pharmaceuticals Group plc (NASDAQ:SHPGY) and other companies as well as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, Japan-American Pharmaceutical Committee, and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. Mr. Smith, who is also a Trustee of the nonprofit International Longevity Center, earned his M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
