Biography

Dr. William Shergy is board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. He specializes in the treatment of connective tissue disorders and diseases of the immune system. In 1978, he earned his BS degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and received his MD from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1982. He completed his internship and residency at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, where he was also Chief Medical Resident. In addition, he completed both a clinical and research fellowship in the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Shergy is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Huntsville, and serves as Assistant Consulting Professor in the Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He is a member of the United Scleroderma Board, the Lupus Foundation of America, and the National Osteoporosis Foundation. Dr. Shergy is Chief of Staff in Rheumatology Associates of N. Alabama’s Clinical Research Center. Dr. Shergy joined RANA in July 1988.
