Biography

0/2016 – present Skoltech, Center for Hydrocarbon Recovery, Assistant Professor Growing the Multiphase Flow Modeling team. Established collaboration with key Oil& Gas companies in Russia on the development of mathematical models for multiphase flow simulators, which are used to design and plan the technologies in the field. Technology in focus: hydraulic fracturing, water flooding, drilling, well testing after m-stage fracturing. Scientific coordinator of the CyberFrac consortium, the project aimed at developing the Russian hydraulic fracture simulation software. Served on the expert group on Computer Science, IT & Numerical Math of the Faculty Appointment Committee of Skoltech’s Academic Council. 06/2005 – 10/2016 Schlumberger Moscow Research Center, Research Program Manager & Principal Research Scientist Continuously progressed from Intern (2005-2006), through Research Scientist (2006-2009) and Senior Research Scientist (2010-2011) to Research Program Manager (2011-2016) and recognized as Principal in 2015. Established and led a team of scientists working on a portfolio of projects on new science and technology with application to Well Testing, Flow Assurance, and Multistage Hydraulic Fracturing in Shales. With team, developed new mathematical models for multiphase flows in long pipelines and hydraulic fractures, studied hyperbolicity of reduced-order models, developed highly-efficient numerical methods (including Multigrid solver for elliptic equation). Strategic research planning. Delivered new technology prototypes for commercialization. Technical expertise in due diligence for $10-100Ms acquisitions for corporate M&A. Participated in technology integration of acquired company. 09/2005 – 06/2014 Lomonosov MSU, Mech&Maths Faculty, Associate Professor Part-time teaching in Fluid Mechanics; supervising MSc and PhD students. EDUCATION: 09/2005 – 12/2006 Lomonosov Moscow State University, PhD w/Distinction in Physics & Maths 07/2000 – 06/2005 Lomonosov Moscow State University, Mech&Maths Faculty, MSci w/Highest Honors Scientific interests of Dr Osiptsov lie in the field of asymptotic methods, multiphase flow modeling, suspension flows, and new technology for oil and gas industry, in particular hydraulic fracturing. He has more than 50 publications, including ~30 papers indexed in Scopus and 6 granted patents. Dr Osiptsov is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Andrei Osiptsov is a reviewer for a number of professional journals, including Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences SPE Journal International Journal of Fatigue Fluid Dynamics Doklady Physics At Skoltech, Andrei Osiptsov is involved in research projects in collaboration with Russian oil & gas companies and academic institutions on themes related to multiphase flows, especially in wells and hydraulic fractures, with the general application to new technology for the oil and gas industry. Dr. Osiptsov is also engaged in supervising students on fundamental and applied aspects of mechanics of multiphase media.
