Biography
Prof Gabitov received his candidate of science degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from L. D. Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Prior to joining Skoltech, he was a Full Professor of Mathematics at the University of Arizona for over 12 years, and before that he was a team leader at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Ildar has extensive teaching experience, having taught courses on a number of topics over the years at universities across the world. The courses include Theory of Probability, Theory of Nonlinear Waves, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Mathematical Modeling in Optical Fiber Communications, Electrodynamics of Optical Metamaterials and others. Ildar is a Galileo Fellow at the University of Arizona and a Fellow of the American Optical Society; he is a recipient of an Outstanding Innovation Award of Los Alamos National Laboratory. He has published over 100 articles and co-authored 5 books. He has also actively engaged in the service to academic community: at the University of Arizona, Ildar was Chair of Promotion and Tenure Committee of the College of Science and served on multiple program steering committees. In the 1990s, he was an expert for the European Commission on Science Technology. He has been a Skolkovo Foundation expert since 2012.
