Biography
Smirnov received his undergraduate degree at Saint Petersburg State University and his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. He has held research positions at Yale University, the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University. In 1998 he moved to the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, and took up his current position as a professor at the University of Geneva in 2003. Smirnov works in mathematical physics, probability and analysis.
