Biography
Waltraud obtained her Bachelor degree in Molecular Biotechnology from Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, Germany, in 2008, and her Master degree in Systems Biology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland, in 2011. During her Master thesis she worked in the laboratory of Prof. Ruedi Aebersold on the analysis of the cell surface proteomic changes occurring during influenza virus infection of human cells using mass spectrometry-based proteomic techniques. Waltraud received her doctoral degree at the Department of Proteomics and Bioanalytics, Technical University Munich, Germany, in joint collaboration with the Department of Neurobiology at Children’s Hospital Boston / Harvard Medical School, Boston, US. Her research focused on the mass-spectrometry-based global proteomics as well as targeted analysis of Tau protein post-translational modifications involved in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease. In April 2016 she defended her thesis titled “Quantitative Studies of Tau Protein and Tauopathy”. During her studies, she worked as researcher at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany; the Babraham Institute, Cambridge, UK; and the Butantan Institute, São Paulo, Brazil. She was awarded the Willi-Studer Prize for best overall degree of the year in the Biology Master program, and her research resulted in several papers in peer-reviewed journals.
