Biography
In October 2014, he was appointed Vice President of Transneft. From 2011 to 2014, he was the Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for cooperation with countries of Africa. In 2008, Mr. Margelov was appointed the Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for Sudan. In 2003 he was elected Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) representing Russia. In November 2001, he was elected the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation. From 2000 to 2014, he represented the Administration of the Pskov Region in the Council of Federation. In 1999, he was the Deputy Chairman of the RIA Novosti Managing Board, the Head of the Russian Information Center (Rosinformtsentr) at the Government of the Russian Federation. In 1996–1998, he worked as the Deputy Head and the Head of the RF Presidential Department for Public Relations. Mr. Margelov has the following awards: The Orders of Honor and Friendship, the Pushkin Medal, other Russian and foreign awards. In 1986 he graduated from the History and Philology Faculty of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at the Lomonosov Moscow State University as a historian-Orientalist and researcher-translator.
