Wachira-mbui Damaris

Biography

 I have eleven (11) years of experience as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi where I have been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have also supervised undergraduate and post-graduate projects. My main competencies include: o Teaching o Research o Supervising projects o Writing and editing research papers ¸ I have a strong academic background having graduated with a First Class degree and attained my PhD qualification in Environmental Chemistry in 2007, and was a Post-Doc fellow at the University Of Cape Town through a fellowship by the Eric Abraham Academic Visitorship (EAAV) from October 2009 to September 2010. I am keen to pursue research project initiatives in environmental monitoring and control; and in computational chemistry ¸ I am a dedicated wife and mother of five children and I have consistently been looking for better and professional ways of parenting. I have been actively involved in initiatives for supporting and protecting the family ¸ My aim is to work for a better environment, merge chemistry with medicine and to encourage women to become scientists.

Research Interest

 Obtained research funding by the National Council of Science and Technology (NCST), Kenya, to undertake research on development of a biosensor for Bisphenol A (May 2011) · Obtained the Eric Abraham Academic Visitorship (EAAV) Award to pursue a Post-Doc at the University Of Cape Town (September 2009 – August 2010) · Obtained research funding by the National Council of Science and Technology (NCST), Kenya, to undertake research on extraction of biodiesel from coffee husks (August 2009) · PhD in Chemistry · Master of Science degree in Environmental Chemistry · Obtained DAAD funding for masters and PhD degree programmes · Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (First Class Honors) · Obtained funding from UNESCO to attend UNIV congress in Rome in 1995 · Organized a successful symposium for Nairobi University Chemical Club (NUCC) in 1997
