Biography
Dr. AlHathloul is a Professor of Architecture & Urban Design at KSU. He is a Saudi Arabian educator and a critic in the field of Architecture and Urbanism with interests in the epistemology of knowledge, the general issues of structural changes in society, and futurist studies; has B.Arch from King Saud University 1972, an MAUD from Harvard University, 1975 and a Ph.D. in Architecture and Environmental Studies from MIT, 1981 He was chairman of the Department of Architecture at King Saud University, Riyadh between 1981and 1984; chairman of the board of Al-UMRAN ( Saudi Society for Architects and Planners) since its inception in 1989 till 1993 . He served as Deputy Minister for Town Planning, Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Saudi Arabia between 1984 - 2004, with the responsibilities of directing and supervising the entire spatial planning process at national, regional, and local levels in Saudi Arabia. He served as a member in the boards of directors for several Government Organizations, i.e. Arriyadh Development Authority, Makkah Development Authority, Hail Development Authority and the Royal Commission for Al-Jubail-Yanbu. Dr. AlHathloul was a member of the jury for: the Organization of Arab Cities` Award; the 1998 AgaKhan Award, Prince Sultan Bin Salman Heritage Award; AlFozan Award for Mosuqe Architecture.
