Saudi Arabia

Biography

I was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1989. My father, who was raised and educated in the United States, had instilled in all his children the work and educational ethics that he developed while studying there. As he continued to pursue his education in the States, my sister and I accompanied him and spent the next fourteen years living and studying in the country. While living abroad, my sister, was in a car accident and experienced a severe brain injury. After two years in a coma and nine years of suffering, she finally lost her battle in 2003. After her death, I returned home to reclaim my sense of self, and I found my calling to enter the field of medicine. My initiation into medicine was merely a lower rung on a tall and mysterious ladder.! I abandoned my dreams of Neurosurgery—an inspiration that had motivated me to the extent of graduating from high school in only two years—in favour of Pathology and Immunology. Experience and my many mentors in the School of Medicine taught me that success in any aspect of life derives most significantly from comprehending the underlying mechanisms (while enjoying oneself), and Pathology is the defining proof to that theory. Specifically, I targeted Immunopathology for academic study and research because it holds the most secrets. It is the key to the many puzzles that still plague physicians and patients, and I shall endeavour to make my contribution within its scope.   I was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1989.
