Biography
Mai Ibrahim Shukri, assistant professor of Urban Planning at University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia, obtained her PhD from the Dammam University, Saudi Arabia and her master’s and undergraduate degree from King Faisal University. Her PhD work was on Gated Communities, identification and characterization and their physical impact in the city of Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The research included studying the entire Gated Community population of Khobar, Saudi Arabia by first creating an inventory of the existing Gated Communities in Khobar, by plotting them and their distribution. Then their physical impact was analyzed and solutions and guidelines for their future implementation were suggested. She has worked in the Arabian Oil Company, ARAMCO, in the Design and engineering department in which she has completed many hospitality and residential projects that included renovation, refurbishment, and interior design. Also, she has worked in a local architectural firm, Chenille Interiors, in Khobar, Saudi Arabia. She has been teaching interior architecture for the past eighteen years. Some of the courses taught by Dr. Shukri include Basic Graphics I and II, Introduction to Interior Design, Theory of Design One, Production Drawings, Finishes and Fixture Design, Costing and Management, Research Methods, History of architecture, and Senior Thesis Project.
