Tony R. Thene

Biography

Tony R. Thene was appointed President & CEO of Carpenter Technology Corporation in July 2015, and is also a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Before being named top exective of Carpenter’s $2.2 billion global manufacturing operation which serves the aerospace, energy, transporation, medical, and industrial markets, Thene joined the company in January 2013 as Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. In his first year as President & CEO, Thene focused his efforts on providing customers with material solutions for complex problems. His “voice of the customer” approach to business was the driving force behind the development of Carpenter’s new strategy which focuses on Technology Development, Operational Excellence, Strategic Marketing, and Talent Engagement. Thene also restructured the company’s commercial organization to better align company expertise and professional services with current and future customer needs. Prior to joining Carpenter, Thene served as Vice President of Alcoa, Inc. and the Chief Financial Officer of the Engineered Products and Solutions Group. Previously, he served as Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer for Alcoa where he was responsible for the company’s worldwide accounting systems and records, corporate fiduciary financial processes and the preparation and filing of Alcoa’s financial statements and reports as well as the Global Financial Services and Information Systems areas. Earlier in his career, Thene worked as plant controller at Alcoa’s Ft. Meade (Florida) and Bauxite, Arkansas, facilities before being named manufacturing manager for the Alumina Chemicals business in Arkansas. In 1998, he joined the Alcoa Forgings business in Cleveland, Ohio as division controller. In 2001, Tony moved to the New York Office as manager of the corporate financial analysis and planning group. Tony also held the positions of Chief Financial Officer for Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals; Chief Financial Officer for the Flat Rolled Products Group; and Director, Investor Relations. Tony earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Indiana State University and his MBA from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
