Biography
The company was founded by Mr Seah Cheong Leng who obtained his first class honours degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, USA. He started his first job with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) in 1981 and was intimately involved in the starting up of the first petrochemical complex in Singapore. Mr Seah was seconded to the government linked company, Intraco Ltd, as a manager in 1984 to start a new petrochemical department. He was subsequently promoted five times consequently to become the General Manager in 1988. By 1990, he was responsible for more than S$600 million sales which constituted more than two-thirds of the company’s turnover. Mr Seah left Intraco in 1992 to start Eastpoint group. EPChem was formed in 2000 to handle the distributorship business of the Eastpoint group. In 2007, he sold his shares in other Eastpoint companies to solely focus his efforts in EPChem’s business. Today, Mr Seah is the sole director of EPChem. Together with his wife, Ms Ng Suk Sian, they control 100% of EPChem.
