Biography
Dr. Jonathan Picker is a co-founder of Global Gene Corp. He is a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and a clinical geneticist at Boston's Children's Hospital.With 25 years of experience in Paediatrics and Genetics, Dr. Picker specialises in the interface of clinical care, applied research and education. This is reflected in his academic position at Harvard Medical School as an Assistant Professor in clinical expertise with special interest in research in the department of Paediatrics. Dr. Picker's research spans diagnostic tools in genetics to descriptive analysis of rare disorders to molecular neuroscience.Dr. Picker's primary focus has been on the genetics underlying intellect and behaviour. He has developed a number of innovative programs and web-based tools to assist primary care practitioners and their patients to understand and use the knowledge of rare disorders to significantly improve care. He also developed new-born screening protocols for inborn errors of metabolism for the New England Consortium of metabolic programs that were used as templates. Notably, the NIH developed the national "ACT sheet" guidelines for paediatricians throughout the US on the basis of these protocols. This experience was consequently utilised by Dr. Picker when he was chosen to chair the National Fragile X Clinic and Research Consortium’s clinical committee to lead the development of accessible guidelines to help both physicians and families with a wide range of complex issues.Dr. Picker holds a bachelors degree of Medical Biology (commend.) in Genetics, and an MBChB in Medicine from Aberdeen University, UK. He also holds an MS in Genetics and Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Newcastle University, UK.
