Biography
Mr Ang received his BSc (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wales, Swansea in 1979 and his DIC, MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of London, Imperial College in 1981. He has served as a Deputy Director of Maritime Research Centre, NTU from 2003 till 2007. He has served as a Treasurer for The Institute of Marine Engineers, Singapore Branch, from 1989 till 1992, and also served as a Treasurer for The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Singapore Branch, from 1993 till 2002. His current professional memberships are CEng, MIMechE, PEng(M), MIEM. He has served as a member for both the Technical Committees in Equipment & Machinery Safety and General Safety, SPRINGS Singapore from 1993 till 2002. He received the Merit Award from the Standards Council of Singapore under the auspices of SPRINGS Singapore in 2002. He has served as a member of Workplace Safety & Health (Metalworking & Manufacturing) Committee, WSH Council, Ministry of Manpower from 2008-2011. He received the Long Service Medal on National Day Award in 2013. Prior to joining NTU in 1986, he has worked for several years as a Shiprepair Manager with Mitsubishi Singapore Heavy Industries. He received advanced specialist training in Shiprepair technology and management for various types of specialized vessels at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Shipyards in Nagasaki, Kobe and Yokohama, Japan. Mr. Ang oversees the co-ordination of the courses for both the BEng (Mech Eng) and the MSc (Mech Eng) programmes with specialization in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME).He has conducted numerous short courses on fluid power systems design, electromechanical & hydrostatic power transmissions for the Marine & Offshore engineering industries in Singapore. He has been engaged as a consultant on numerous occasions to review hydraulic circuit design in various infrastructural installations involving electrohydraulic power transmission and control systems
Research Interest
Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics of engineering materials using boundary element Methods and Instrumentation & Control of Fluid Power system.
