Biography
astrid kensinger is currently assistant professor at NTU's school of art design and media in visual communication. She holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in classical & near eastern archaeology form Bryn Mawr College. Astrid pursued her art and design practice internationally spending much time in Japan, the USA & UK. She has exhibited and presented her work internationally. Her current major project involves performing and mapping, visualising scores as immersive spaces. She uses information visualisation and mapping in another multidisciplinary TIER 2 involving a team of linguists. In this project Astrid visualises research methodologies using mapping and design. She has taught for the London college of communication in the design for advertising pathway as well as in the new media department at Epsom Center for the creative arts, UK. She has also been invited to present her research and work as a visiting designer to Central Saint Martins, Brighton and LCC. In Tokyo she was the design and media manager for the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the art director for the Tokyo American Club as well as a typography instructor for Tamabi university.
Research Interest
Graphic Design history, typography, mapping, live art as communication and participation art. Currently working on three funded research and design projects using GPS, video and site-specific research in South East Asia and Europe.
