Biography
Danné Ojeda is Associate Professor in the School of Art, Design & Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Danné Ojeda’ s work engages contemporary communication design, art practice and theory. She holds a MPhil in Art History from the University of Havana, Cuba; and a BDes in Graphic Design from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, University of Professional Education in Art and Design, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She has worked as a Professor of Art History at the Higher Institute for the Arts in Havana (1996-2000) and as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Letters, University of Havana. She was a UNESCO research fellow at the Jan van Eyck Academy, Institute for Research and Production in Fine Art, Design and Theory, Maastricht, The Netherlands (2001-2003). She taught graphic design at the Modern International Art and Design Academy, Chongqing Technology and Business University, China (2006-2008). In 2003, she founded d-file Graphic Design Studio from which she has mainly worked for and collaborated with cultural institutions like the Singapore Art Museum and the Centre for Contemporary Art (Singapore); the National Institute of Fine Arts (Mexico), Perpetuum Foundation and Bimaris Editions (The Netherlands). Danné has published, lectured on and curated exhibitions related to contemporary art and design. She is the author and the designer of the book Diagonal. Essays on Contemporary Cuban Art, Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, 2003, among other publications. She is also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Communication Design, Interdisciplinary and Graphic Design Research, edited by Routledge/Taylor & Francis, and a member of the Editorial Board for the British Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies. Her design works have been recognized with the Red Dot Design Award: Communication Design (DE), the Gold Award, Singapore Design Awards (SG), and The Art Books Wanted International Award (CZ), among others. Her complete publications and exhibition design oeuvre commissioned by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) was awarded with Asia’s Top Designers Award, Singapore Design Award 2014.
