Biography
Prof. Liu joined the School of MAE since 1999. He received Bachelor degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Licentiate in Technology and Doctor of Technology from the Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. From 1995 to 1999, he was a postdoctoral fellow, a senior research fellow and a visiting scholar at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), Hong Kong Polytechnical University and Johns Hopkins University (USA), respectively. His research interests are smart materials and structures and their applications. He has published extensively in premier journals including Acta Materialia, Philosophical Magazine, Advanced Functional Materials, Physical Review Letters, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, etc. He has given invited talks at various international conferences and served as reviewer for various academic journals.
Research Interest
Smart materials and structures and applications, in particular shape memory alloys, magnetic shape memory materials, 3D printing of shape memory alloys and polymers, applications of smart materials structures in aerospace technologies and satellite components.
