Wei Lei

Assistant Professor
School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Nanyang Technological University
Singapore

Biography

Dr. Wei received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology, China, in 2005; and the Ph.D. degree in Photonics Engineering from Technical University of Denmark, Denmark, in 2010. Then he joined the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a postdoctoral associate in September 2010. During his postdoctoral studies at MIT, Dr. Wei has led the original research on in-fiber fundamental junction structures, and established a versatile approach to produce semiconductor spheres scalable in size and quantity. In September 2014, he joined the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore as a Nanyang Assistant Professor.

Research Interest

The main research interest of Dr. Wei’s Lab is to fundamentally address the needs and challenges for scalable fabrication processes to produce flexible devices down to the nanometer-scale. The core technique is so-called preform-to-fiber fabrication by thermally drawing a macroscopic solid-state preform into extended lengths of uniform fibers. This allows the fabrication of novel devices with unprecedented control over architecture, composition, and functionality on the extended fiber length scales from nanometer to kilometer range. The resulting fibers play a leading role in development of multidisciplinary solutions for precise biomedical treatments, energy harvesting, and distributed sensing systems in both single flexible fiber and multi-dimensional fabrics.
