Biography
· Dr Ng Soon Chye is an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist who is currently practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. Dr Ng is internationally renowned for his expertise in the area of reproductive medicine and infertility treatment, and his clinical interests include infertility (female and male infertility), gynaecological laparoscopy and hormonal disturbances. · Many consider Dr Ng Soon Chye the ‘father’ of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) in Asia, due to his success in starting the first IVF programme in Singapore and in delivering the first IVF baby in Asia in 1983. Since this landmark achievement, Dr Ng has also pioneered techniques such as the sub-zona insemination (SUZI) technique in 1989 and the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique in 1993. Both techniques have met with success and were the first of their type to be conducted in Asia (ICSI) and the world (SUZI). · Dr Ng has published over 160 papers in international journals, and is currently an adjunct professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the National University of Singapore. His research covers topics such as somatic cell nuclear transfer, stem cell biology, and applications of mammalian gamete development.
