Biography

Dr Tsai is an Associate Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor or Surgery (MBBS) degree in 2008. He then successfully matched with the Singhealth Ophthalmology Residency Program, which is accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education - International (ACGME-I). During the course of his training, he received multiple awards including the prestigious Richard Fan Gold Medal award for outstanding senior resident, Singhealth Best Junior Doctor Award, Singhealth Outstanding Resident Award in 2013 and 2016 and the Merit Award in the Chief of Defence Force Essay competition. He was also appointed as Lead Resident in his third year of residency. Dr Tsai completed his Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2014 with a Gold Medal for best candidate in the examination. He was awarded a prize for outstanding performance in intermediate/in training examination in the Singhealth RiSE Awards in 2014. He then became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (United Kingdom) in 2015 and gained accreditation as a specialist in Ophthalmology in 2016. He was appointed as Chief Resident in SNEC in 2016. Being passionate about education, Dr Tsai was conferred with the Junior Doctor teaching award from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2015, and is currently an adjunct clinical faculty with NUS. Dr Tsai also has a strong interest in research and published his first paper as an undergraduate. To date, he has published first-author papers in local, regional and international journals, and has presented at various conferences. He has co-authored book chapters on ophthalmic surgery and imaging of retinal diseases. He occasionally serves as a peer reviewer for ophthalmic publications and is also appointed as an adjunct research fellow with DUKE-NUS. Dr Tsai believes in an evidence-based and patient-centric approach to clinical care.

Research Interest

His current clinical practice includes general, cataract and comprehensive ophthalmology. He will be subspecializing in the field of vitreo-retinal diseases in order to provide quality care to patients afflicted with retinal problems.
