Biography
I am a Senior Consultant in Radiation Oncology with interests in Breast and Neuro-oncology. I am particularly interested in the epidemiology, treatment and outcomes of early stage breast cancer. Towards this end, I have collaborated in multi-parties national and international studies to better define the profile and treatment outcomes of the Asian phenotype. Together with like-minded colleagues, I have built a large breast cancer clinical database to support retrospective and outcomes research. I have participated in prospective randomized trials in breast cancer involving both British and American collaborators. Closer to home, I am spear heading local prospective studies in new breast cancer irradiation techniques including the use of Intra-Operative Radiotherapy, which was introduced into Singapore under my supervision. I have received several grants in aid of my research work from the Health Ministry, Cancer society and Industry partners. Among these efforts includes the development of a local outcome prognostic instrument to predict outcomes of Asian breast cancer patients. My interest extends beyond the clinical aspects into Health Services Research and Health Economics where I am collaborating with fellow experts in areas of breast cancer and Proton Therapy, a new radiotherapy technique to be introduced in Singapore by the next decade. Aside from breast cancer, I have interests in Neuro-oncology. Ongoing research includes the use of Stereotactic Radiosurgery in the treatment of brain tumours and outcomes of brain tumours extending from benign Meningiomas to the highly malignant Glioblastoma Multiforme.
