Biography

Dr Livia Teo is a Consultant in the Oculoplastic sub-specialty division at SNEC. She is also a member of the Core Faculty in the Training and Education Department, where she is involved in planning medical student and resident teaching. She also serves as a Section Leader in the Joint Commission International committee responsible for maintaining quality standards in the hospital, as well as serving as the Department Representative in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She was awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service Award (2015). A graduate of The National University of Singapore, she was consistently in the top quartile of her cohort and, among other achievements, received recognition by being placed on the Dean’s List and being awarded the Mekie Surgery and Dermatology prizes in the final examinations. Continuing with her graduate medical studies at the same University, she obtained the degrees of MRCSEd and M.Med. in Ophthalmology in 2009, while undergoing Residency training at SNEC. She was also appointed Chief Resident in 2009. In 2012, she obtained Fellowships from both The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and Academy of Medicine (Singapore), and for her excellent performance in the Specialists’ Exit examination, she won medals in each of the categories Oculoplastic & Adnexal Disease and Cornea & Refractive Surgery. Dr Livia completed her training in Oculoplastics in Singapore in 2013 and was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Plan postgraduate scholarship in 2014 to pursue further training overseas. She was a fellow at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston and at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University Healthcare System in Seoul, South Korea. As part of the General Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department, Dr Livia also practices general ophthalmology and performs cataract surgery. In research, she continues to be active and has attended and presented at several overseas conferences including the annual Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology meeting; World Ophthalmology Congress; Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Congress ; and European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Congress. With a keen and focused interest in Oculoplastics related research, to date, she has published nine papers in several established/peer-reviewed Ophthalmology journals.
