Biography
Dr Philip Pang has recently completed his advanced specialist training and is currently a registrar at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, National Heart Centre Singapore. He obtained his MBBS from the National University of Singapore, graduating in 2007 and was awarded the SingHealth Best House Officer award in 2008. He obtained his postgraduate qualifications, MRCS (Edin) and MMed (Surg) in 2009 and 2010. Dr Pang is currently studying the long-term clinical outcomes in the respective groups of patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery and surgery for heart failure. His research interests include clinical outcomes of valvular heart disease (in particular mitral valve repair), heart failure surgery, extracorporeal life support and mechanical assist devices. He aims to develop a dedicated valve surgery registry at NHCS. In April 2013, he was awarded a SingHealth Foundation Startup Grant ($50,000) as principal investigator for the study of “Therapeutic Hypothermia in Adult Patients receiving Extracorporeal Life Support”. As the main author, he has published several papers in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr Pang would like to seek research collaborations with experts in the field of valvular heart disease, heart failure and extracorporeal life support. He is interested in the potential role of tissue banking for patients with valvular heart disease including those of degenerative, ischaemic and rheumatic aetiology.
