Dr Te Ching, Mark Wong

Biography

Dr Wong is an Assistant Professor and Consultant surgeon in the Department of Colorectal Surgery. Dr Wong completed a Ministry of Health (MOH) sponsored fellowship in Pelvic Floor and Functional Colorectal Disorders in France in 2010 and then in Denmark in 2014. He now pursues his interests in minimally-invasive colorectal cancer surgery and functional colorectal disorders, seeking to improve patient outcomes through cutting-edge medical techniques. Shortly after his return, he was appointed as Director of the SGH Pelvic Floor Disorder Service, the Nation’s first tripartite initiative between specialists from Colorectal Surgery, Urology & Gynaecology, providing multidisciplinary care for Pelvic Floor Disorders including faecal incontinence, constipation and pelvic organ prolapse. Together with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment managed by specialized staff, this Service provides access to advanced therapies currently not available elsewhere in the region. Dr Wong was instrumental in organising the Nation’s first ever Pelvic Floor Disorder Public Forum in 2012, and published the Nation’s first prevalence study on faecal incontinence, revealing that up to 5% of the population are likely sufferers. In 2015, he was appointed Director of the SGH Gastrointestinal Function Lab, the first comprehensive diagnostic facility in the region for functional gastrointestinal disorders. He is widely published in this field and is active in several professional medical organizations. He is also dedicated to educating and training the next generation of surgeons, holding concurrent academic appointments in both Duke-NUS and Yong Loo Lin-NUS Medical schools.
