Gary Yam

Biography

I obtained my PhD degree in cancer cell biology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. My postdoctoral training on protein quality control, small molecule-assisted protein rescue and electron microscopies was supervised by Prof Jurgen Roth in Department of Pathology, University of Zurich. Currently, my research is focused on ocular cell biology and stem cell reprogramming and potential therapy. I have contributed over 80 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and received different awards including the Alfred Vogt Prize (2007) of the Swiss Ophthalmology Society, the most prestigious award in Switzerland for scientific research in ophthalmology, and Young Scientist Awards by Society for Histochemistry (2003 and 2005) and American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2003). I serve as editorial board member and reviewer for more than 10 international journals (including Histochemistry & Cell Biology and Scientific Reports) and research grants.

Research Interest

Ocular surface cell biology, corneal tissue engineering, stem cell epigenetics, reprogramming and therapy
