Biography
Dr Richard Quek graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997 and received his MRCP (UK) in 2006. He did his advanced oncology fellowship training in bone and soft tissue sarcoma at the Dana-Farber/ Harvard Cancer Centre USA from 2008 - 2010. Dr Quek’s work profile is divided between clinical work, research and education. His clinical and research focus is primarily in sarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST), melanoma and lymphoma. Since returning from his fellowship, Dr Quek has devoted his time and energy in building up the multi-disciplinary sarcoma clinical service in NCCS and raising the awareness of sarcoma in the community. He is a leading member of the Singapore Sarcoma Consortium and is the organizing co-chairmen for Singapore Sarcoma Symposium. In research Dr Quek’s chief interest is in translational therapeutics, developing new molecularly targeted therapeutics in sarcoma and GIST in an academic environment. Notably, he is the Principal Investigator of many clinical trials including investigator-initiated academic studies evaluating novel drugs in the treatment of sarcoma and GIST patients. Dr Quek is well published in his field of research and has been invited to speak at many international meetings. Dr Quek currently serves as the Program Director, Medical Oncology Residency, in charge of the medical training and professional development of young cancer specialists in training. For his efforts in education, he was awarded he SingHealth Outstanding Educator Excellence Awards (Special Mention) 2013
