Biography
Adj Assoc Prof Shamira Perera qualified from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’sand St Thomas’s, University of London, with a BSc(hons) in Biochemistry First Class honours (1994) and MBBS(hons) in 1997. Whilst there, he won the Planck prize for Medicine, a Special Trustees award for BSc funding and a distinction in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. An Anterior Segment Fellowship in Brighton and Sussex University Hospital complemented his experience working as a Glaucoma fellow at Southampton and Portsmouth hospitals and Moorfields Eye Hospital (London). In April 2008, he made the move to Singapore with his family. Supported by both competitive research grants and industry collaborations: his main interests have lead to 4 patents. Beyond this, he is a panelist for A*STAR’s DxD hub which seeks to advance promising commercializations in MedTech. Adj Assoc Prof Perera has been an invited lecturer for over 23 conferences and reviews manuscripts for the 5 main ophthalmic journals.
